The above picture displays Kemkraft model
KEI-445 Steering Wheel Gauge (SWG). The KEI-445 is a fixtured / non-fixtured
floating Gauge. The KEI-445 SWG, is a 3 point contact tool that attaches
to the steering wheel, with a spring loaded handle, allowing the tool to
be non-fixtured. Under operator / computer control the air cylinder
(located in the handle) can be extended, to the windshield, allowing the
gauge to be fixtured.
Kemkraft
also sells a model KEI-850
Box that interfaces to a Vehicle Alignment Machines’ PLC to control the
SWGs’ pneumatic air cylinder. Utilizing a KEI-445 SWG with a KEI-850
box, the steering wheel is held, at zero degrees, during most of the alignment
cycle with the tools air cylinder. When the vehicle alignment is
close to being finished, the tool air cylinder is retracted to allow the
steering wheel to “float”. Allowing the steering wheel to “float”
prevents the hysterysis in the vehicles steering system to not bind on
one side or the other. Ford Motor Co. presented Kemkraft a quality
award, for this process, because it proved to be a warranty claim cost
savings. |
